How I Found My Path in Modern Witchcraft
August 25, 2026I didn’t come to tarot because I wanted someone to predict my future. I came to it because I was tired of second-guessing myself and ready to trust my inner voice again. At the time, that voice felt buried under everyone else’s opinions, my own fear, and the constant pressure to make the “right” choice. Tarot became less like a fortune-telling tool and more like a quiet mirror—one that helped me hear what I already knew deep down.
How Tarot Helped Me Learn to Trust My Inner Voice
The first tarot deck I ever bought sat untouched on my nightstand for weeks. I loved the artwork, but I felt intimidated by the cards.I thought I had to memorize every meaning perfectly before I could “do it right.” One evening, after a long day of feeling overwhelmed, I finally shuffled the deck and pulled a single card. It was The High Priestess, and even before I looked up the meaning, something about her stillness made me pause. She felt like a reminder to stop searching outside myself for answers. At that time in my life, I was constantly asking friends what they thought I should do. Should I stay in a relationship that felt comfortable but emotionally distant? Should I change jobs even though I was scared of starting over? Should I speak up about things that bothered me, or keep the peace?
Every decision felt heavier than it needed to be because I didn’t trust my own instincts. Tarot gave me a ritual where I could sit down, breathe, and ask myself what I truly felt without immediately running away from the answer.
Over time, I stopped treating the cards like a mysterious authority and started seeing them as conversation starters. If I pulled The Tower, I asked myself what in my life was already cracking. If I pulled The Star, I asked where I needed hope or healing. The cards didn’t shout instructions at me. They invited reflection. Slowly, I realized I could trust my inner voice again—it had always been there, just quieter than my anxiety. Tarot helped me create enough silence to hear it again.
The Reading That Helped Me Trust Myself Again
One reading stands out more than any other. I was trying to decide whether to leave a job that looked good on paper but left me exhausted and uninspired. Everyone around me told me to be grateful. The pay was steady, the title sounded impressive, and from the outside, nothing seemed wrong.
But every Sunday night, I felt a heaviness in my chest. I kept telling myself I was being dramatic, until one morning I sat with my tarot deck and asked, “What do I need to understand about this situation?”
I pulled three cards: Eight of Swords, Death, and The Fool. The Eight of Swords felt painfully accurate—I was trapped mostly by my own fear. Death scared me at first, but I understood it as an ending that needed to happen, not a disaster.
Then The Fool appeared like a deep breath. It didn’t promise that leaving would be easy. It simply reminded me that every new beginning requires a step into the unknown. I remember staring at those cards with tears in my eyes because they reflected what I had been afraid to admit: I already wanted to go.
That reading didn’t make the decision for me. I still had to update my résumé, save money, have difficult conversations, and face uncertainty. But something shifted inside me. I stopped asking for permission to feel what I felt. I began trusting that my discomfort was information, not weakness. A few months later, I left that job and moved into work that felt more aligned with who I was becoming. Tarot didn’t hand me a map, but it helped me trust my compass.
Tarot helped me trust my inner voice by teaching me to slow down, listen, and be honest with myself. The cards never replaced my intuition—they helped me recognize it. What began as curiosity became a personal practice of reflection, courage, and self-trust. Now, when I pull a card, I’m not asking the universe to tell me who I am or what to do. I’m giving myself space to remember that I already carry wisdom within me.
